Scars On Broadway —el proyecto liderado por Daron Malakian, guitarrista y principal compositor de System of a Down— se convirtió en blanco de críticas luego del lanzamiento del visualizer de “Your Lives Burn”, tema incluido en su álbum Addicted To The Violence.
El video, creado por David Provan, incorpora imágenes asociadas a movimientos y símbolos como el comunismo, el cristianismo y el nazismo. Esta puesta en escena, sumada al tono neutral de la letra, desató una ola de comentarios que cuestionan a Malakian por “no tomar postura” en un contexto donde la política y las redes sociales potencian la polarización.
La canción ha sido señalada por su distancia del espíritu combativo y de justicia social que muchos fans identifican con System of a Down, principalmente por la influencia histórica de Serj Tankian.
