Hola amigos de la web! Hace unos días tuvimos la oportunidad de conversar con una joven promesa del hard rock, Shiraz Lane, banda finlandesa con mucho potencial y que recientemente se han unido a las filas de la productora peruana Eternal Symphony Entertainment.
La banda nos comenta sobre sus inicios, sus principales influencias y su interés por latinoamérica.
TMR: ¿Cómo se formó la banda? ¿Por qué el nombre "Shiraz Lane"?
Ana: Cuando éramos niños Hannes vivía cerca de mí. Pasaron los años y decidimos comenzar una banda. Entonces vi que Miki estaba buscando músicos para formar una banda, básicamente así empezó todo. Luego, conocí a Jani cerca de un año después cuando comenzamos la secundaría en la misma Escuela.
Hannes: Conozco a Ana desde que éramos niños, solíamos tener una relación de amor-odio, no fue hasta que nació Shiraz, que decidimos olvidar el "odio". Decidimos que queríamos cambiar el mundo, y vimos esa posibilidad en la música que es la única forma de cambiar algo. Conocí a Miki y a Jani por Shiraz Lane, no los conocía de antes. La primera vez que pase el rato con Joel, fue en un concierto que tocamos hace un par de años, el era parte de una banda llamada Sinner's Gin que hicieron de teloneros para Shiraz. Para ser honesto, conectamos inmediatamente
Jani: Estaba en la misma secundaria con Ana, ya sabía que era un tremendo baterista, así que decidí darle el vamos. Hubieron dos o tres ensayos como "Audición" conmigo y comenzamos a prepararnos para nuestro primer concierto, por que los muchachos sentían que la banda ya estaba lista.
Joel: Ana fue el primer chico de la banda que conocí. Creo que fue en el año 2009, compartíamos intereses similares con respecto a la batería. Al resto los conocí después, cuando ya eran Shiraz Lane.
Miki: Con respecto al nombre, Shiraz Lane es una metáfora del camino de la vida. ¿por qué no podemos disfrutar el momento?
TMR: ¿Cuáles son sus principales influencias?
Miki: Para mí la lista de influencias es larga y diversa, por ejemplo bandas como Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin y Hanoi Rocks han sido los gatillos de mi creatividad musical desde el primer momento. Por supuesto, escuchamos diferentes géneros y tomamos influencias de todas partes (Amor y vida)
Hannes: Mi ídolo es Michael Jackson. Él es y siempre será un genio incomprendido, que en paz descanse.
Joel: Paul Stanley, Slash y Duff McKagan han sido grandes influencias para mí.
Ana: Red Hot Chili Peppers y Guns N' Roses por nombrar algunas.
TMR: ¿Cómo describirían su música?
Miki: No pensamos mucho en géneros, así que por estos días todo es una combinación de riffs y canciones. Si alguien viene con algo que suena bien, se lo mostramos al resto y hacemos que suene como Shiraz. Por supuesto somos una banda de Rock, pero no queremos estar artísticamente restringidos con música esquemática. Si tuviese que categorizar nuestro nuevo material, lo llamaría Rock autentico.
Hannes: ¿Por qué todo el mundo quiere estar en una caja? A la mierda con eso. Nosotros sonamos como Shiraz Lane.
TMR: ¿Cuáles son los principales temas de sus letras?
Hannes: Mira alrededor ¿Que ves? Todo eso me inspira y sobre eso escribo.
TMR: ¿Cuál es la principal meta de la banda?
Miki: La principal meta es llegar a la mayor cantidad de personas para expandir nuestro mensaje y forma de pensar.
Hannes: Alcanzar la luna, si te caes seguirás entre las estrellas.
Joel: Ir por lo grande y disfrutarlo.
Miki: Esperen lo inesperado.
Jani: Una gran cantidad de emociones desde canciones de rock pesado hasta cosas más suaves.
Ana: Lo clásico de Shiraz con giros avanzados.
Joel: Tres canciones completamente nuevas que estarán acompañadas por ''Out There Somewhere'' y ''Money Talks'', por que empezamos a sentirnos mal por no lanzarlas en un formato físico. Será muy bueno.
TMR:¿Qué saben acerca de América Latina? ¿Cómo se les ocurrió empezar a trabajar aquí?
Miki: Sé que es una bella parte del mundo donde viven los mejores fans de la música heavy.
Hannes: Sinceramente esperamos tener una gira en tierras latinoamericanas lo más pronto posible.
Joel: La idea de promover a la banda vino de nuestro amigo y manager promocional (Diego Velasquez Rodriguez de Eternal Symphony Entertainment) quien nos contacto primero.
Jani: Esperamos poder ver pronto a la gente de Latino América.
TMR:¿Qué países desean visitar?
Hannes: Cada país en el mundo.
Ana: Si eso, es lo que queremos!
Joel: Pienso que estamos en la misma página sobre este asunto. En cuanto a Latino América, sería realmente grandioso visitar países como Perú y Mexico, para visitar antiguos lugares culturales como Macchu Pichhu y los templos Mayas.
Jani: Si! y visitar el amazonas!

TMR: How was the band formed? Why Shiraz Lane?
Ana: Hannes used to live right next door to me when we were kids. Years went by and we decided to form a band. Then I saw Miki's add seeking musicians (or the other way around) to form a band and that's how we started this band pretty much. I met Jani about a year later when he had just started high school at the same school I was going at that time.
Hannes: I've known Ana since I was a little kid, and we used to have a love-hate relationship, and it wasn't until Shiraz that we ditched the "Hate" part. We decided to make a change in the world, and as we see it, music is the way to truly make a change. I met Miki and Jani through Shiraz Lane, I didn't know them before hand. The first actual time I got to hang out with Joel is from a gig we played a couple of years ago, he was a part of a band called Sinner's Gin that warmed the stage for Shiraz, and to be honest, we clicked immediately.
Jani: I was at the same high school with Ana. I already knew that he was a superb drummer, so I decided to give it a go. There were maybe two or three "audition" rehearsals with me and then started to prepare for our first gig cause the guys felt like the lineup was ready enough.
Joel: Ana was the first guy of the band I ever met. I guess the year was 2009 and we shared the mutual interest towards drumming. The rest I got to know later, by the time they already were Shiraz Lane.
Miki: Yup, and what comes to the name issue -Shiraz Lane is a metaphor for the road of life. And why not enjoy a sparkle of wine while you're at it?
TMR: What are your principal influences?
Miki: For me the list is long and diverse, but for example bands like Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin & Hanoi Rocks have been the ones to trigger my musical creativity in the first place. Of course we all do listen to different genres and take influence from everything (life and love) we experience.
Hannes: My biggest idol is Michael Jackson. He is and will always be a misunderstood genius. May he rest in peace.
Joel: Paul Stanley, Slash and Duff McKagan have been big influences to me.
Ana: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N' Roses to name few.
TMR: How do you describe your music?
Miki: We don't think about genres so much nowadays when coming up with riffs/song sketches. If someone comes up with something that sounds good, it is introduced to the rest and we'll make it sound like Shiraz. Of course we are a Rock band, but we don't want to be restricted artistically by making schematic music. If I should categorize our (new) material I'd call it Authentic Rock
Hannes: Why would anyone want to be in a box? Fuck that. We sound like Shiraz Lane.
TMR:What is the principal theme of your lyrics?
Hannes: Look around you, what do you see? That is what inspires me and what I write about.
TMR:What is the goal of the band?
Miki: The goal is to reach out to as many people as possible to spread our message and mindset.
Hannes: Reach for the moon, if you fail you'll still be among the stars.
Joel: Go big and enjoy doing it.
TMR:What can we expect about your upcoming EP?
Miki: Expect the unexpected
Jani: A larger scale of emotions from hard rocking tunes to smoother stuff.
Ana: Classic Shiraz tunes with advanced twists.
Joel: Three completely new songs which will be accompanied by Out There Somewhere and Money Talks, because we started to feel a bit bad for not releasing them in a physical format. It’s gonna be good.
TMR:What do you know about Latin America? How did you get the idea to start working here?
Miki: I know it is a beautiful part of the world with some of the most best heavy music fans!
Hannes: We sincerely hope to tour there as soon as possible!
Joel: Actually the idea to start promoting us there came from our friend and promotional manager (Diego Velasquez Rodriguez from Eternal Symphony Entertainment) who contacted us first.
Jani: Yes, hope to see you guys in the future!
TMR: What countries do you want to visit?
Hannes: Every country in the world.
Ana: Yes, pretty much so!
Joel: I think we all are on the same page on this issue! In Latin/South America it would be especially cool to visit countries like Peru and Mexico, to visit ancient cultural sites like Macchu Picchu and Mayan temples.
Jani: Yeap and the Amazon would be great to experience!
